The Turner Unit is located at the edge of the Mount Angeles View Housing Authority on Laurdisen Boulevard, in Port Angeles.  Led by Unit Director Alyssa Stouder, the staff and volunteers at the Turner Unit see approximately 200 kids a day. The unit boasts fantastic programs implemented at a national level. These programs are dedicated to building academic success, good character &citizenship, health & wellness, and workforce readiness.

Offering the following programs:
  • B Group: A group‑based mentoring program for boys that connects them with positive adult male role models. The program focuses on emotional support, life skills, healthy decision‑making, and building strong character through discussions, service, and guided activities.
  • Brain Gain: A summer learning program that keeps kids engaged academically through fun, project‑based activities designed to prevent summer learning loss.
  • Career Launch: A teen workforce‑readiness program helping youth explore careers, build job skills, and prepare for real‑world employment opportunities.
  • Club Scouts: A leadership and job‑readiness opportunity where teens assist staff, mentor younger members, and learn workplace professionalism through hands‑on Club responsibilities.
  • Garden Club: A hands‑on program where youth learn about growing plants, healthy eating, and environmental stewardship through fun gardening activities.
  • Inspire Them: A positive teen‑focused program that encourages leadership, creativity, and personal growth through supportive conversations and goal‑driven activities.
  • Judo Club:
  • Junior Rangers: An outdoor exploration program that helps youth connect with nature, learn environmental stewardship, and develop an appreciation for the outdoors.
  • K Squad Circles: Small-group sessions that helped students practice respectful communication. Guided by simple norms such as speaking and listening from the heart, using a talking piece to ensure one voice at a time, the circles created a safe space for honest dialogue.
  • Keystone: BGCA’s premier teen leadership group focused on academic success, career preparation, community service, and meaningful Club involvement.
  • Money Matters: A financial literacy program teaching teens how to budget, save, spend wisely, and build strong money‑management habits for the future.
  • My. Future: BGCA’s digital learning platform offering technology, media, and creative skill‑building activities that help kids explore interests and earn badges.
  • Positive Action: A social‑emotional learning program that teaches youth how to make positive choices, build self‑esteem, and develop strong interpersonal skills.
  • Power Hour: A structured homework and academic success program that offers tutoring, study support, and enrichment activities to strengthen learning habits.
  • Project L.A.N.E.: A wellness program focused on Lifestyle, Attitude, Nutrition, and Exercise, helping youth build healthy habits and positive routines. Our Turner Unit gym, the Lane Richards Gymnasium, is named in honor of Lane Richards and lovingly dedicated by his widow, Karen Richards.
  • Reading Buddies: A literacy‑support program that pairs younger readers with mentors or older peers to build reading skills, confidence, and a love of books.
  • Robotics Club: A STEM‑based program where youth learn teamwork, problem‑solving, coding, and engineering by building and programming robots.
  • Running Club: A fitness‑focused program that encourages healthy activity, endurance, and teamwork through group running and movement‑based challenges.
  • SMART Girls: A health, fitness, and personal‑development program that empowers girls to build confidence, make positive choices, and develop strong self‑esteem.
  • SMART Moves: A prevention and life‑skills program that helps youth develop decision‑making abilities and resist risky behaviors through education and discussion.
  • Morning Camp - Summer: A summer program offering morning activities, enrichment, and recreation to keep kids active, social, and learning during school break.
  • Swimming Club: A water‑skills and recreation program focused on building confidence, safety awareness, and fitness through fun swim activities.
  • Teen Programs: A collection of BGCA programs designed for ages 13–18, offering leadership development, social‑emotional skill building, college/career preparation, creative outlets, and teen‑specific experiences.
  • Torch Club: A small‑group leadership and service club for ages 11–13 where members plan projects, build responsibility, and make a positive impact in their community.
  • Wise Guys: A boys’ mentoring and character‑building program that promotes respect, healthy relationships, emotional awareness, and responsible decision‑making.
  • Youth of the Year: BGCA’s highest teen leadership honor recognizing outstanding character, service, academic achievement, and leadership within the Club and community.
The Port Angeles Unit is equipped with a Games Room, Art Room, Technology Center, Education Room, Snack Area and an Outside Play Area. The Unit serves 90+ youth per day and is home to the Walt Schubert Teen Center.
