PROGRAMS

The Clubs nurture young people's self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence; we do this daily by providing young people the opportunity to build relationships with caring adult professionals and fun, age-appropriate programs and safe environment. Our nationally-recognized programs are carefully designed to support our achievement in Youth Development Outcomes for young people leaving the Clubs at age 18. Below are the areas our program focuses on.

Education & Career Programs
These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.

Character & Leadership Programs
Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs. They also develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making, contributing to Club and community and celebrating our national heritage.

Health & Life Skills Programs
These initiatives develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

The Arts Programs
Programs in this core area enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

Sports, Fitness and Recreation Programs
These Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.

Specialized Programs
These locally developed programs focus on meeting the interests and specific needs identified within the community. Their broad scope complements several of our core program areas.

Summer Programs
As described on the following page, Summer Programs  provide academic enrichment for our youth  and keep them on-track for the upcoming school year.

Jazzmen Murray - 18

Jazzmen is an eighteen-year-old senior at Port Angeles High School and is also participating in Running Start at Peninsula College. She will graduate from high school with both her high school diploma and her associate's degree from Peninsula College.

For three years, Jazzmen has been an invaluable member of the Turner Unit in Port Angeles, embodying the ideals of dedication, hard work, and dependability. Her contributions have been immeasurable, and the positive influence she has had on her peers and younger members is lasting and meaningful.

Jazzmen demonstrates an exceptional level of responsibility in every role she undertakes. Whether working in the games room as an intern, serving as a youth worker in our summer food program, or being a "Reading Buddy" to younger members, she goes above and beyond. Her commitment is evident in her willingness to step up whenever there is a need, and her positive attitude in all endeavors.

Jazzmen is a respected leader at the Club, admired for her positive energy, approachable personality, and for her capacity to motivate others. Her peers and younger members look up to her for guidance, and she has become a role model for many. She is focused and reliable, managing to balance her many responsibilities, both at home and in school, while remaining a steadfast presence in our Club.

Jazzmen is excited to start George Fox University this fall and gain her degree in Elementary Education so she can continue being "a light in the dark" for youth.
