Building Great Futures

Opening Doors and Building
GREAT FUTURES for Port Angeles Youth!
Support Our Capital Campaign

Entering foster care at the age of 10 wasn’t an easy transition for 2017 BGCOP Youth of the Year, Cody Mireau, although it was necessary for his well being. Cody’s home life left him afraid and without a sense of what “family” meant. The Club showed him how to use his voice, give to others, and get back on track in school. As a Club intern, he was empowered to help younger kids find their own voice. After graduation, he joined the Army to serve our country.

“My family’s at the Club, and I know they’re the reason I have a future ahead of me,” says Cody.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT
Currently, we operate out of two converted residential housing units built in the 1940’s. In our 6,000 square foot space, we have a bedroom-sized art room, library, computer lab, and small membership/reception area. More than 120 meals per day are prepared in a small, galley-sized kitchen.
The Clubhouse and the low-income residential homes in the Peninsula Housing Authority are scheduled for demolition over the next few years to construct 232 new homes, drastically increasing the housing availability and the need for a larger replacement Clubhouse.
We are currently serving 11% of the school-aged children in Port Angeles,
and not able to accommodate more.

With a new Clubhouse, we could serve more kids in the community!

OUR VISION
We provide programs and services to the entire community, especially those who need us most, with a fully functional Club facility built by
state-of-the-art construction that provides outstanding technology, education, and recreational capabilities.

A new Clubhouse will better prepare us to provide innovative, quality programs designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens, and lead healthy, productive lives.

OUR NEW PORT ANGELES CLUBHOUSE
  • Will be strategically located on Lauridsen Boulevard, between Jefferson Elementary and Franklin Elementary schools
  • Will accommodate twice as many youth who will be able to take advantage of expanded programs and activities
  • Will be a community asset as a disaster location for the emergency management plan
  • Will serve Summer Meals to local children
  • Will feature a gymnasium and commercial kitchen
“With parents and guardians working full-time, a newer,
safe place for after-school programs and care, and one which offers enrichment activities, is needed in Port Angeles.”
 – Marc Jackson, Ed.D., Superintendent,
Port Angeles School District

The total cost of the project includes construction of a 16,500 square foot Clubhouse, featuring a gymnasium, education room, teen center, middle school room, games room, computer lab, commercial kitchen, and art room. The premium lot on Lauridsen Blvd. was generously sold to BGCOP for $1.00.

“The question is not whether we can afford to invest in every child; it is whether we can afford not to.”
– Marian Wright Edelman
